Radio Futura is one of the most popular musical groups from Spain in recent times. The group created Spanish music between1979 and 1992. The popularity of Radio Futura Music Group, however, did not wane. This is because many Spanish artists from subsequent period remixed, or re-recorded their songs. Arde La Calle is one such collection. Effectively, Radio Futura group's music continues to entertain fans almost a decade after the group's last album. This band also has fans in countries that do not have large Spanish speaking Diasporas.
This is because Radio Futura toured different parts of the world for promoting its music. The music of this group topped the charts several times. Their music has inspired many Spanish artists who grew up listening to such exquisite blend of traditional Spanish music with modern music. Arde La Calle is, therefore, a tribute from such artists and music groups to this pioneering group, which, incidentally was also the first group of Spanish music world to release a video recording of its music.
Throughout the 1980's and early 1990's Radio Futura was one of the most popular Spanish pop bands on the scene. The Radio Futura group was voted best Spanish act of the 80's in 1989. The Radio Futura music group was comprised of what most would consider unlikely candidates. The band was started by a painter named Herminio Molero and included Luis and Santiago Auseron who where review writers for a music magazine, and finally their guitar player Enrique Sierra and percussionist Jieavr Perez Grueso. The band name Radio Futura translates in English to Radio of the Future. The music group got the idea for the name from an Italian independent radio station.
The group disbanded in 1992 but later released several greatest hits and tribute albums including, Tierra para bailar (RCA, 1991; the band remixing some of their own songs), and Memoria del porvenir (the band re-recording some of their own hits 1998), and Lo mejor de Radio Futura: Paisajes electricos (2004).
Radio Futura music was redefined many times throughout their career adding new members and technical aspects that kept their music always evolving and their fans always guessing what the band would have in store for them next. In 2004, the tribute album Arde La Calle appeared on the scene. The album featured contemporary artists and groups from across the Spanish speaking world performing hits from Radio Futura in tribute of the sensational pop band that turned the Spanish music scene on its head and forever revolutionized Spanish pop music.
